How I organize my greeting cards

As a card maker I end up with a lot of cards! I am also in some card exchanges where I get cards for ideas, that later go in my card box. I was long overdue in coming up with a way to organize my ever growing collection of cards. I had many shoe boxes of cards, but there was no order to them. I also had a lot of cards that I knew I would never send. My mom came over and helped me sort them. We added card inserts to cards that had dark card stock so you could see the writing. We made a pile of cards I know I would not use, and she added envelopes to those. She is taking them to a thrift store that she volunteers at that has a card section. When designing my new cabinets, I designated 2 drawers to hold cards, and this is the system I am using to organize them.

The above picture is my top drawer. In the back left I have card inserts in Basic White and Very Vanilla. In front of them are Vanilla envelopes which we no longer carry. The next row is my Basic White envelopes. Then I have 2 rows of Birthday Cards. I have these categories for birthdays:

  • Birthday
  • Birthday Kids
  • Birthday Women
  • Birthday Men

The picture at the top of the page shows the second drawer. I have these categories in it.

  • Thank you
  • Shower
  • Wedding
  • Anniversary
  • Baby
  • Get Well
  • Sympathy
  • Congratulations
  • Graduation
  • Retirement
  • Valentines Day
  • Spring/Easter
  • Mother’s Day
  • Father’s Day
  • Fall/Thanksgiving
  • Winter
  • Christmas
  • Blank
  • Praying for You
  • In My Thoughts/ Here for you
  • Thinking of You
  • Just Because
  • Friend

The Following Products I found on Amazon to help me organize the drawers. I used 5 of the bamboo dividers, and the full pack of 26 CD and DVD dividers. As I am filling the drawers I am realizing I may need another pack since I think I came up with another few categories. The Drawer Organizer is what I put the card inserts in. I used these in many of my drawers to hold things like adhesives, glue dots, clear blocks… #AmazonAssociate

  • Black Card Category Dividers. I used these CD & DVD dividers https://amzn.to/3GQhP2w
  • Avery File Folder Labels https://amzn.to/42X4Tzl
  • Drawer Dividers Bamboo https://amzn.to/4d1AcxH
  • Drawer Organizer https://amzn.to/3YtxdrT

I am so happy with how it is turning out. There are 3 more bins to organize that will get added to this. I am hoping there are a bunch of birthday cards in them! May is a big birthday month in our family. Let me know if you decide to organize your cards. It is going to be so nice to open up my drawer the next time I need a card!

Make someone’s day, and send them a card!
