September 12 is National Day of Encouragement. This special day was started in September, 2007 by high school students that attended the National Leadership forum in Searcy, Arkansas in June. The students were challenged to come up with what the biggest problem was in their schools. They determined that the use of drugs and alcohol was the biggest problem and that the use lies in discouragement. They decided to focus one day in 2007 to encourage each other.
In 2008, the Arkansas Day of Encouragement caught the attention of President George W Bush and a bi-partisan resolution in the Senate and the House declared September 12 of each year National Day of Encouragement.
