France
–Last Day
Today
we wanted to go see the Arc de Triomphe.
The 165 foot arch began in 1809 to honor Napoleon’s soldiers who scored
a victory over the Austrians at the Battle of Austerlitz.
This
is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (from World War 1) Every day at 6:30 since just after World War 1 the flame is
rekindled and new flowers are set in place.
The
riders in the Tour come up to it, and then ride down the Champs Elysees. This is referred to as one of the
world’s most celebrated streets.
There are big businesses, glitzy nightclubs, high-fashion, celebrity
cafés and a great place for people watching. We spent some time sitting on a bench watching all the
people go by. We walked down one
direction and then came back up the other side.
We
ate lunch at this Pizzeria. Most cafés
have a sidewalk section where you can eat. We just had water here. They wanted just over $7.25 per class of pop. We bought a liter of pop at a little
store for $3.19, a better deal, but still a lot more than the $1 I can get a 2
liter for in the US.
There
are several stores selling cars along Champs Elsees. It is different to see the cars in the buildings, even the
second floor since they do not have space to have a large car lot.
We
stopped at a Lamborghini store.
Check out the little kid car!
We
decided that a fun last night activity would be to have dinner in the Eiffel
Tower. It was also a great way to
celebrate Michael’s birthday. We
were told to reserve online tickets so we did not have to wait in line for 2
hours for the tickets.
These
pictures are from the first floor.
This
is how the food was served.
Here are some pictures from the top.
This
was the perfect way to end an amazing trip!
